Credit Crunch Back Yard

It's fair to say most of us are diversifying to make an extra bob or two. Presenter Carys G Dayne heads out to Cambridgeshire to chat to one farmer who's putting his extreme back yard to good use.

Shame!

Not so sure about the new offering from Robbie Williams & Gary Barlow. I mean don't get me wrong I'm as chuffed as anyone to see them beszzies again - hate arguments don't you?!

But is it just me or is this song not that great and more to the point it's all a bit Brokeback Mountain isn't it. I mean there's making up and there's making up! At one point I thought there would be tongue action and tents!

It's good fun though, all very tongue in cheek and it's good to have the boys back even though it's not quite my cuppa. Check it out for yourself.

If it is good enough for celebs it is good enough for me!

I am on a mission to see if Power Balance bands are just a con trick?

Celebrities have always liked to wear their status on their wrists; it’s usually a Tag watch or Rolex. But the latest must-have arm candy isn't made of precious gems - it's just plastic and a fraction off £30.

Stars such as Leonardo DiCaprio, P Diddy, Robert De Niro, Kate Middleton, David Beckham, Cristiano Ronaldo and F1 driver Rubens Barrichello are all sporting the Power Balance band.

Apparently these tiny rubber bracelets help improve your balance, strength and flexibility. The secret is said to lie in a special hologram, set in the silicone band that claims to enhance the body's natural energy. Sounds perfect to me!

The idea came from a Californian entrepreneur Josh Rodarmel and his brother, Troy. He explains: 'everything in nature has a set frequency. The body has a frequency and things, which cause negativity to the human body - like mobile phones and radio waves - break down its natural healing frequency. My brother and I worked out a way of putting good frequencies into our holograms so they balance out the body, making it stronger and more flexible.'

Mmm I’d love to know how they ‘worked’ that out and how they actually do it, sounds a bit hocus pocus to me.

Cynics are arguing that it’s just another fad. However, despite such opposition, the bands have grown in popularity, aided and abetted by endorsements from several high-profile athletes. Rubens Barrichello, who drives for the Williams Formula One team, is convinced: 'The first time I used it in a race, I won,' he says. P Diddy wears his wristband on stage, proving that it's not just sports stars who can take advantage of their powers. Ooo magic! Paul Daniels should SO have one!

Testimonials like this (the celebs not mine!) have helped shift 2.5million worldwide. I’m setting out to test them for myself. It’s day 1 and I put my cute pink bracelet on an hour ago, so watch this space!

Advice from Chuck Biscuits!

This is really funny. I received this email in 1999 when I was just starting out as a presenter. I thought I would share the advice I was given from ‘Chuck Biscuits’ (apparently a punk drummer!) on how to make it in TV. This is word for word; I haven’t corrected any spelling or grammar from the original email!

1. Start off behind the scenes as a runner then just try and muscle in on some screen time like that Will McDonald guy on Chris Evans’ss program.

2. Don’t listen to what producers say most of them don’t have televisions, or know what’s going on because their on drugs (probably)

3. Publicity, turn up to showbizzy party’s wearing something a bit risqué no one had ever heard of Liz Hurley, Emma Noble and Caprice. Before they wore like sprayed on dresses and the like.

4. You only get anywhere in the BBC if people think your gay especially kids telly even if your not gay.

That’s the best advice I can give. Bye

So now you know how it’s done!

A Family Affair...

....that is how I would sum up my weekend. My Mum & my Rick Stein look-alike Dad came down for a visit and as it’s almost my Mum’s birthday I decided to take us all to Audley End House in Saffron Walden. It’s one of the English Heritage sites and home to the good old British picnic concert. As it was Yorkshire Day on Sunday we thought it was fitting that we all got a bit patriotic at the Last Night of the Proms with fellow Yorkshire lass Lesley Garrett.

It was my first time at a live classical event like this and I have to say it was beautiful both the music and the setting were just stunning. I was really amazed at the Spitfire fly by, flown by a lady pilot too! Very unexpected....the fly by not the female pilot! At least she didn't have to park it up somewhere!

Lesley was joined by Only Men Aloud who I have heard of before. There are quite a few of them! Think Blazin Squad but classically trained and with talent! Although at one point Lesley did introduce them as ‘Only Men Alive’, which made me laugh. At least if they were the only men alive there’s enough of them to go round!

Also joining her on stage was Wynn Evans, the name might not mean a great deal to you unless you really know your classical music. However, if I were to sing ‘Go Compare’ at you then you’d instantly know who I meant! He was a big Welsh tenor who was quite funny too! Check out Wynn he looks different without that stick on tash!

We filled cool boxes, picnic hampers and flasks, I’m sure we had enough food to feed the whole event! And brought lots back home with us too!

I did notice rather a lot of picnic envy going on although not aimed at us! There were people with tables sporting lace tablecloths, linen napkins in napkin rings and the family’s finest silver wear! One table even had a candelabra! There was a lady fishing out toothpicks from their holder and a family eating what looked like a full on Sunday dinner! I on the other hand was more than happy trying Crabbies for the first time!

It was a great afternoon in to evening and Mum & Dad really seemed to have fun; my Dad even got up and sang! If you’ve never been before I’d really recommend it. Alfresco dining and some culture for a Sunday what more could you ask for?

Check out all the photos including the Spitfire fly by and fab fireworks on my Facebook page.

Lodestar Festival 2010

I am so excited about being involved in this years Lodestar festival here in sunny Cambridgeshire. It’s all going on from 3rd until 5th September.

I’m going to be out and about over the 3 days armed with a camcorder. Well there’s trouble for starters especially after a few drinks! Anyway I’m going to be documenting the festival basically filming everything! With full back stage access I’ll be chatting to the bands and having a nosey in to all the other stuff going on. I can’t wait to try Zorbing! You know where you pretend you’re a hamster in one of those giant balls! 2 huge challenges there, the first hanging on to the camcorder and the second managing not to throw up!

There’s loads to get involved with the festival goes above and beyond camping in a field with some great live music although wow what a place to start.

Get your tickets now before they sell out. There’s only a few weeks to go so be quick. I hope to be chatting to you over the weekend and get you involved in my film. Make sure you come and say hi!

Careless Driver!

I would say I am one of the biggest George Michael fans ever. I think these photos of my bedroom as a teenager speak for themselves. The posters were floor to ceiling and all over the ceiling! Even the skirting boards and light switches had little pictures on! There’s little I don’t know about the man and I wear my George Michael anorak with pride!

However, it has to be said that lately I have felt a little disappointed, hang on no add let down to that! This is the man who started to turn my head away from a world of horses to hormones.

I have wondered many times what George’s sex face is like! Could it be like this?

Lets hope not eh! In my head it’s more like this!

I have to face facts though, I have been let down by George Michael. What is going on in that mans head? 7 times now he’s driven his car off the road. Surly he’s not a skint member? Surly he could replace his Range Rover with a dodgem car or at least fit enormous rubber bumpers to it. Or he could hire a driver or build his own personal racetrack to crash on? I mean what had Snappy Snaps ever done to him? Maybe they took over an hour to develop his photos?! Why does he keep doing it? Is it boredom? Or maybe another publicity stunt maybe this behaviour fuels creativity! His next single could be ‘Careless Driver’ ‘I’m never gonna drive again’ Oh if only he’d turned a Different Corner…he’ll need to have ‘Faith’ that the cops don’t say ‘I Want Your Driving Licence’

I can’t stay disappointed for long. Whatever his reasons and putting his recent carry on to one side he’s still ‘Amazing’!

This week I have been...

Trying - Nordic Walking. Nordic Walking is the UK's fastest growing outdoor activity - it is easy, fun and social. Plus it's great for getting you out in the fresh air. A fab walking experience you use a pair of lightweight poles that provide support while increasing the effectiveness of exercise without the extra effort. You get an all over body workout but without putting too much strain on your joints. This makes it great for people of all levels of fitness. My top tip would be if you take you’re other half with you and he keeps catching your legs with his poles…. Hit him back ☺

Check it out here www.fithaven.co.uk/nordic/index.html

Watching - Robert Downey Jnr & Jude Law in Sherlock Holmes. Robert is a total legend that has to be said! Next Downey Jnr stop, Ironman 2! Also loving the cute baby woodpecker that keeps visiting my bird table to peck at the fat balls!

Reading - I'd like to tell you it was something like War & Peace but sadly it was this weeks LOOK magazine! Keeps me on the fashion straight and narrow. Yes I got it right by purchasing my clogs. I’m not following in the footsteps of Katy Perry and going the blue hair route! She looks a bit like an umpa lumpa!

Thinking – about my Dad on Fathers Day, sad that I’m not with him today but just about to give him a call. My Dad bears an uncanny resemblance to the TV chef Rick Stein! OK Dad’s got more hair, glasses and a Yorkshire accent but apart from that they are separated at birth!

Listening to - Enrique's new song 'I Like It' Ironically I do! In fact I love it. Best thing he's ever done.

The weekend

The weekend went by a bit of a blur - quite literally as I've got a sore eye! But thanks to a rather overly friendly man at Specsavers with his special equipment, it looks like it's just a surface scratch and should be as good as new in a few days if I stop rubbing it, avoid computers, lights and daylight! Easy just find a rock to crawl under!

The weekend was a mixture of hanging out in dark corners like some vampire girl, birthday celebrations and some sadness too! I finally braved the last 3 episodes of 24. No more Jack Bauer what am I to do? At least there's a silver lining to this cloud though, they didn't kill him off which means we can wait patiently for a huge, gung ho, blockbuster movie!

The final ever series of Big Brother is well underway. I've tried to fathom out which is worse BB or the dreaded World Cup! I'm trying to avoid the World Cup as to be honest I'd rather poke myself in my sore eye repeatedly than sit and watch what seems like 8 hours of my life slip away! Those constant horns that sound like a swarm of bees about to carry my house away are driving my 2 dogs mental! I think I'm going to have to come up with a way to get even or should I say equalise Girls v World Cup and I need to think fast or I fear us girls may literally not see our men for the next 3 weeks - good or bad you decide!
